Phillip Jakpor
Head of Media, Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria

Philip Jakpor joined Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA) in 2007 as media officer and rose to become head of media in 2009. Through his media skills he has helped advance ERA philosophy of defending human rights, public health and the world’s ecosystems through the promotion of environmentally responsible governmental, commercial, community and individual practice in Nigeria. Nigeria ratified the global tobacco treaty in 2005 and now Jakpor works with a broad network of Nigerian and international allies to expose the tobacco industry’s attempts to curb marketing and promotion. He works with the Network for Accountability of Tobacco Transnationals (NATT) to advance global efforts to protect public health from vested tobacco interests. Before joining ERA, Jakpor worked as a journalist, and still helps organizations form workable and effective media strategies.
