ST. LOUIS - Attitudes are shifting at Washington University. What once was a modern convenience. This bottled water is now taboo. Bottled water in now a big "no no" on Washington University's Campus. "If someone does have bottled water it's like oooh... what are you doing?"
Kady McFadden The University booted bottled water in January, with the exception of two campus marts that will quit selling it on March 15th.
Kady McFadden led the student campaign "Tap It". She says students thirst for bottled water is a drain on the environment. Washington University is the first University in the U.S. to ban the bottles paving the way for others.

To encourage the use of tap water, school officials fixed campus drinking fountains and tested the tap water. They also placed large water coolers in high traffic areas to refill reusable containers.
Many students say they've pitched the bottles for tap...and free water is just as good.

While you can't buy a bottled water at Washington University. You can still bring it from home and you can also still buy soda in plastic bottles. But school officials say since the ban went into effect in January soda sales are slipping.
