Campaign News 2005-2006

April 2006 - Chevron Annual Shareholders' Meeting

The day before Philip Morris/Altria's annual meeting, we traveled to Houston, Texas to join other environmental and health advocates to challenge Chevron (formerly ChevronTexaco) at its annual shareholders' meeting. We joined in solidarity with Environmental Rights Action, Amazon Watch, Amnesty International and other advocacy groups to send a strong message to Chevron to end their environmental and human rights abuses in countries such as Ecuador and Nigeria.

April 2005 - ChevronTexaco Annual Shareholders' Meeting

As part of our new work on the oil industry, we traveled to California to join other environmental and health advocates to challenge ChevronTexaco at its annual shareholders' meeting. Corporate Accountability International is partnering with Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria to pressure the corporation to stop gas flaring in Nigeria. We used the shareholders' meeting to directly and publicly question the CEO of ChevronTexaco about this dangerous practice.

Through fires that rage 24 hours a day, ChevronTexaco burns gas spewing from open oil wells in communities throughout Nigeria, with devastating impacts on people's health and the environment. While gas flaring is hardly ever done in the US and Europe, there are more gas flares in Nigeria than in any other country in the world.

Thanks to your support, we helped bring the growing demand for ChevronTexaco to end its irresponsible and dangerous practice of gas flaring in Nigeria home to the oil giant.
