2006 Annual Meeting Season
Voices of Social Change Dominate 2006 Corporate Meetings
This spring, Corporate Accountability International and our members are in the middle of one of the busiest corporate annual meeting seasons on record! So far, we have traveled to shareholders' meetings in Delaware, New Jersey and Texas--bringing with us key international allies, student activists, volunteers and religious leaders. With help from you, our activists, we've delivered strong messages directly challenging the irresponsible and dangerous actions of Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Philip Morris/Altria and Chevron.
Coca-Cola Annual Shareholders' Meeting 2006
On April 19th, people gathered in Wilmington, DE, to directly challenge the executives of Coca-Cola for its abuses around the world. Dozens of activists attended the meeting--many of whom spoke powerfully from the floor. Despite Coke's attempts to control the message, statements of protests were heard from the beginning of the meeting to the end. As part of our "Think Outside the Bottle" campaign, Sister Nancy MacDermott delivered thousands of public comments on behalf of religious congregations, community activists and student groups from across the country. Outside the meeting, dozens of students from the U.S. and Canada joined with Teamsters and religious leaders to demand an end to the human rights, labor and environmental abuses of Coca-Cola in communities around the world. In addition, Corporate Accountability International organized a Tap Water Challenge (above) to expose the dangerous reality behind bottled water brands, like Coke's Dasani.

PepsiCo Annual Shareholders' Meeting 2006
Just two weeks after the Coca-Cola meeting, Corporate Accountability International traveled to Plano, Texas for PepsiCo's annual shareholders' meeting. As part of our "Think Outside the Bottle" campaign, organizers directly challenged Pepsi executives for the misleading marketing of its bottled water brand, Aquafina. We also delivered thousands of postcards generated from religious congregations, community activists and student groups over the last several months.

Philip Morris/Altria Annual Shareholders' Meeting 2006
On April 27th, we joined with our allies and sent a clear message to Philip Morris/Altria's top decisionmakers that there is growing resistance to the corporation's abusive practices and its interference in public health policy. For the first time at an annual meeting, policymakers from Latin America and Africa addressed the corporation's executives about the tobacco giant's interference with the implementation of the global tobacco treaty and called for an end to Philip Morris/Altria's abuses.
A week before the meeting more than 1,000 people from all over the world sent messages to the corporation with a resounding call that the tobacco industry should play no role in shaping health policy! More than 125 countries have ratified the global tobacco treaty, signaling that it is no longer business as usual for Big Tobacco.

Chevron Annual Shareholders' Meeting 2006
The day before Philip Morris/Altria's annual meeting, we traveled to Houston, Texas to join other environmental and health advocates to challenge Chevron (formerly ChevronTexaco) at its annual shareholders' meeting. We joined in solidarity with Environmental Rights Action, Amazon Watch, Amnesty International and other advocacy groups to send a strong message to Chevron to end their environmental and human rights abuses in countries such as Ecuador and Nigeria.
