Challenge Big Tobacco Campaign

Corporate Accountability International is campaigning for the implementation and enforcement of the global tobacco treaty, formally the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).

The treaty has been ratified by more than 150 nations, bans tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship, and sets international standards to prevent Big Tobacco from meddling in health policies.

Campaigning for Ratification of the Global Tobacco Treaty

Global corporate abuse demands a global response and tobacco giants like Philip Morris/Altria will not give in without a fight. So we are working with allies in the United States and internationally to assist countries in their implementation process, to challenge tobacco industry interference in health policy, and to ensure that the treaty is enforced. 

The Second Conference of the Parties 2007 - Bangkok, Thailand

In July 2007 Corporate Accountabilty attended the Second Conference of the Parties, in Bangkok, Thailand.  The conference was a groundbreaking meeting where critical decisions will be made about the treaty's implementation and enforcement.

The Global Tobacco Treaty and the United States

The global tobacco treaty opened for signature on June 16, 2003, and officially entered into force on February 27th, 2005. Throughout the negotiations, the United States worked to derail the treaty. Now, the United States is among a minority of nations yet to ratify it.
