Boston Herald - Group shines light on state water purchases

By Associated Press

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Despite ongoing fiscal troubles, a new report finds some states are continuing to pour tax dollars into bottled water.

The report by the Boston-based nonprofit Corporate Accountability International says, for example, that Massachusetts spent nearly half a million dollars on individual bottles of water and water coolers during the past fiscal year.

On Wednesday, the group is planning to call on Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania to cut back on what officials say is wasteful spending on bottled water.

In Vermont, the group says state agencies spent $205,833 for bottled water last year.
