Akinbode Oluwafemi

Deputy Executive Director, Environmental Rights Action / Friends of the Earth Nigeria

Oluwafemi has been involved with Corporate Accountability International as a member of the Network for Accountability of Tobacco Transnationals steering committee since 1999. He is the deputy executive director of Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth, Nigera (ERA) -- Nigeria's foremost environmental rights advocacy group. Oluwafemi heads ERA's water campaign to prevent the privatization of water in Lagos and build the movement for public water in Africa. He also plays a lead role in designing and implementing ERA's tobacco control program. Before joining ERA, Oluwafemi was a journalist with The Guardian, Nigeria's leading national newspaper. As a journalist, he participated actively in the press freedom struggles during the despotic rule of the late General Sani Abacha.  Oluwafemi graduated from the University of Ilorin in Ilorin, Nigeria.
