Communications:

 

Advocacy Writer

The Advocacy Writer will join a strong and committed team to help build the organization’s capacity to challenge corporate power. The Advocacy Writer will work closely with the Chief of Staff to drive the organization’s foundation work. In addition, the Writer will also contribute to the overall work of the communications team. We are looking for a strong writer with a fundraising background who would thrive in an enthusiastic and campaign-oriented atmosphere.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft, edit, research and proofread foundation communications, including letters of interest, proposals, and reports.
  • Draft, edit and proofread additional materials as needed, including reports, campaign, membership and media outreach pieces.
  • Analyze and synthesize media, campaign, and organizational developments for program officers.
  • Coordinate the review and approval of communications by senior staff.
  • Write and edit content for the organization’s website.
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date files, records and systems.
  • Participate in organization-wide planning, fundraising and campaign activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and progressive social change.
  • At least four years of writing experience in a non-profit setting, including a proven track record in development writing.
  • A portfolio demonstrating the ability to write quickly, concisely, and in a manner compelling to philanthropic partners.
  • Enthusiasm for the organization’s mission and campaigns, as well as a passion for building the organization.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Highly motivated and tenacious, with great attention to detail.
  • Grassroots organizing experience a major plus.
  • Computer skills: proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Office a must; experience with design software like Adobe Photoshop, CRM’s like Salsa, and CMS’s like Drupal a bonus.

Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco Internship

 

The Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco Intern will research and monitor the tobacco industry, and help support the organization’s international organizing team for United Nations and World Health Organization negotiation meetings, media outreach, and organizing of international allies to implement the global tobacco treaty around the world and protect it from industry interference. The projects will be coupled with training sessions on action planning, campaign research, media outreach, fundraising, and many other topics.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the National Organizers, International Organizers and Campaign Directors to organize activists at the local, regional, national or international level;
  • Outreach targeted constituencies to get people involved in the Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco to develop Corporate Accountability International’s core of activists;
  • Track and monitor business publications and other sources for relevant developments;
  • Support the research for and development of policy positions for the organization’s international public health campaign efforts;
  • Recruit activists by organizing and participating in campaign actions and organizing events;
  • Respond to requests for information and management of campaign materials;
  • Design and layout organizing materials for different constituencies;
  • Provide administrative support to National Organizers on short term campaign projects;
  • Participate in organizational building activities.

Communications Internship

 
The Communications Internship is a skills-building internship in which interns will take on significant projects to advance Corporate Accountability International’s mission, including our Think Outside the Bottle Campaign, challenging corporate control of water, our Value [the] Meal campaign, challenging corporate abuse of our food and our Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco. The projects will be coupled with training sessions on action planning, campaign research, media outreach, fundraising, and many other topics.
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain a list and outreach to identified bloggers covering issues related to Corporate Accountability International campaigns
  • Work with communications staff to develop organizational publications including development materials and campaign-related publications
  • Proofread materials ready for production
  • Write headlines and captions for the organizational newsletter, annual report and other materials
  • Gather photos for various materials produced including slide show presentations
  • Write letters to the editor during campaign media events
  • Assist the communications unit on a range of tasks from rapid response to breaking media, editing web content and general administrative tasks  
  • Participate in campaign and organizational building activities.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

Development Research Internship

 
The Development Research Intern will work with our team of fundraisers and membership outreach staff to build and refine our list of current and potential major donors and help find new grant making foundations to support Corporate Accountability International’s campaigns.
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct philanthropic and prospect research;
  • Help recruit new members through targeted campaign outreach;
  • Help conduct media research and assist in the creation of face to face fundraising materials; 
  • Support administrative systems, including updating member records and organizing member data;

Development & Membership Outreach Internship

Finance & Accounting Internship


The Finance and Accounting Intern will assist in performing accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, preparing state registrations and will help prepare for the annual audit. This is an excellent opportunity to get hands-on experience in a non-profit Finance department.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the CFO and Financial Manager on income processing and related receivable issues;
  • Assist the Financial Manager on the weekly preparation and printing of vendor checks;
  • Regularly pull together all the required state non-profit registration paperwork;
  • Help the Finance Department in bank reconciliation;
  • Assist with cash flow and budget.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Media Relations Internship

 

Media and Communications Job Description: Corporate Accountability International is engaged in working with the media to:
1. Generate ongoing, high volumes of coverage in top-tier media to increase public awareness and expose corporate abuses;
2. Build relationships with key reporters to significantly expand the depth and breadth of coverage.

The Media and Communications Intern will work with our Communications unit to develop and implement targeted media initiatives that serve these goals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor, track, and package ongoing media coverage;
  • Assist in building organizational capacity to engage key reporters;
  • Maintain up-to-date news and media sections on website;
  • Research and map out relationships between newspapers, maximizing media coverage.
  • Identify opportunities for and assist with rapid response (such as letters to the editor).


QUALIFICATIONS:

Non-Profit Administration Internship

 

The Non-Profit Administration Intern will play a unique role in the organization  by supporting projects such as implementation of an outreach program to identify and hire top-notch candidates for entry-level to senior staff positions or developing systems for supporting campaign actions.  This internship is an excellent introduction to non-profit administration.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage systems for recording and tracking campaign and organizational outreach contacts;
  • Post, update, and monitor current job and internship announcements on various websites and listservs;
  • Field job and  internship candidate inquiry calls and emails;
  • Develop and design materials, organize existing materials;
  • Help manage online databases and create systems for shared online resources;
  • Participates in key campaign events, and occasionally represent organization at outreach events;
  • Provide support for planning and scheduling staff orientations and trainings;
  • Participate in campaign and organizational building activities.

Online Internship

 

Corporate Accountability International is looking for a self-motivated individual with experience and skills in web content management, editing for the web, graphic design and site management.


The Online Intern will assist with the management of our website and email campaigns. In addition to coding in content, you’ll be creating graphics for email call-out boxes, web banners and buttons. You’ll also be responsible for tracking and reporting on web metrics and making recommendations on web strategy. Tasks require a strong attention to detail and an ability to work under tight deadlines.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement website content changes;
  • Implement search engine optimization tactics;
  • Design graphics for use on the web and in email campaigns;
  • Proofread web content;
  • Track and report on site metrics;
  • Archive web-based information for future needs and reference;
  • Work cooperatively with key team members.

Think Outside the Bottle Research Internship

 

The Think Outside the Bottle Research Intern will support the organization's organizers and researchers in conducting research and analysis needed to develop and implement the Think Outside the Bottle Campaign. Specifically, the Research Intern will:

  • Further develop the Think Outside the Bottle campaign and Corporate Accountability International’s analysis of the bottled water industry, water privatization in the U.S., water distribution methods, and the best ways to keep water democratically controlled;
  • Monitor, track and provide analysis on issues relevant to water and the bottled water/private water industry, including market and polling data, environmental and social effects of water policies,  and privatization efforts; 
  • Monitor and analyze developments in local, national and international policies and industry market data;
  • Advance the Think Outside the Bottle campaign strategies, with a focus on improving support for strong public water systems and challenging the aggressive rise of the bottled water industry’s role in eroding that support;  
  • Develop corporate research profiles that track industry performance and trends as well as provide detailed information relevant to the operations of our corporate targets; and
  • Assist with the preparation of written materials for internal and external consumption, which may include corporate profiles, blog postings, communications to our tens of thousands of members, and other campaign materials.

  • Assisting with research reports, utilizing library, research and internet skills to gather needed information.

Think Outside the Bottle - Water Campaign Internship


The Think Outside the Bottle Campaign intern will take on significant projects to advance Corporate Accountability International’s mission, including our Think Outside the Bottle Campaign challenging corporate control of water. Think Outside the Bottle is focused on building support for strong public water systems and challenging the misleading marketing of the bottled water industry. The projects will be coupled with training sessions, action planning, campaign research, media outreach, fundraising, and many other topics.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Outreach targeted constituencies to get people involved in our Think Outside the Bottle Campaign – work with these constituencies to promote tap water and go bottled water free in their communities and networks;
  • Work with the National Organizers and Campaign Director to organize activists at the local, regional, and national level for National Days of Action generating pressure on water bottlers;
  • Recruit activists by organizing and participating in campaign actions and organizing events;
  • Respond to requests for information and management of campaign materials;
  • Design and layout organizing materials for different constituencies;
  • Provide administrative support to National Organizers on short term campaign projects;
  • Participate in organizational building activities.

Value [the] Meal works to reduce the harm and human suffering caused by the fast food industry, protect our children and future generations from the corporate driven epidemic of diet-related diseases, and help transform the food system globally. The projects will be coupled with training sessions, action planning, campaign research, media outreach, fundraising, and many other topics. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Outreach targeted constituencies, including health professionals, to build support for Value [the] Meal
  • Work with the National Organizers and Campaign Director to organize activists at the local, regional, and national level to generate pressure on fast food;
  • Recruit activists by organizing and participating in campaign actions and organizing events;
  • Respond to requests for information and management of campaign materials;
  • Design and layout organizing materials for different constituencies;
  • Provide administrative support to National Organizers on short term campaign projects;
  • Participate in organizational building activities.

Value [the] Meal Research Internship

 The Research Intern will support our organizers and researchers in conducting research and analysis needed to develop and implement our campaigns, particularly our Campaign Challenging the Corporate Abuse of Our Food. Specifically, the Research Intern will:

  • Advance the Value [the] Meal campaign strategies, with a focus on the fast food industry’s impacts on public health, marketing practices, and interference in nutrition and health policy.
