Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death, killing 5.4 million people around the world each year.

That’s why the global community has unified behind the world’s first public health and corporate accountability treaty, the global tobacco treaty (formally known as the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control) – a document enshrining the world’s most effective tobacco control measures – that will save 200 million lives by 2050 when fully implemented.

Today tobacco industry interference poses the greatest threat to the treaty’s success and its ability to save lives. The months leading up to the 5th Conference of the Parties this November in Seoul, South Korea present important opportunities to clear Big Tobacco out of the way of treaty progress, setting a powerful precedent for corporate accountability across industries.
